GSE designed modifications to Building 103, a 45,000 square foot facility in Area 47/48, to allow the transition from External Tank manufacturing to Space Launch Systems (SLS) manufacturing. Area 47/48 will be used for the final integration of SLS core stage subassemblies which will include liquid hydrogen tanks, engine sections, intertanks, liquid oxygen tanks, and forward skirts. In addition to final integration of the above listed subassemblies, Building 103 will also house the installation of engines, feedline and press lines, systems tunnels with applicable wiring, and final testing and systems checkout. GSE provided structural, mechanical, electrical and fire protection design services for the renovated facility.

GSE provided the design of the Stainless Steel Hot Annealing and Pickle Line (HAPL) and the Cold Annealing and Pickle Line (CAPL). Also included was all associated infrastructure, medium voltage distribution, fire protection system design for the entire site, and the lightning protection and grounding design for the Carbon Steel complex. The HAPL and CAPL processes involve the heating and acid etching the steel through series of ovens and acid baths. These processes require the support of extensive process piping and systems. They included a variety of acid storage and distribution, steam, cooling water, natural gas, electrical.

Steel Warehouse Alabama features a state of the art push pull pickler capable of pickling hot rolled coils up to one inch thick and up to 72" in width. The new facility has rail and truck access and barge access nearby. The line can produce pickled dry, pickled and oiled, Mil-Bond and dry lubed strip. GSE provided full engineering services for Steel Warehouse’s heavy gage Push/Pull Pickle Line constructed at the Calvert Industrial Park. The scope of this work included engineering for all buildings and equipment support for the approximate 106,000 square foot facility.

80,000-pound coils.

Kloeckner Metals Corporation consists of three business segments: Flat Rolled Group, Heavy Carbon Group and Special Products Group. The facility, located within ThyssenKrupp Industrial park, is a 100,000-square-foot, light-gauge steel flat rolled processing center. GSE provided full engineering services for Kloeckner Steel’s new slitting line and coil storage facility. Design included foundation for rail access into the building and a 40 foot deep looping pit. The project design was coordinated with a “fast-track” construction approach.

Design included foundation for rail access into the building and soil reinforcement methods to avoid extensive deep foundations.

GSE provided
planning, design, engineering, and construction supervision for a new undersea
pipe umbilical facility. The general
construction scope was the renovation of an approximately 165,000 sq.ft. manufacturing
space with two 50,000 sq. ft. circular buildings designed to spool pipe umbilicals.
Detailed design included the manufacturing facility, spooling building, guard
building and gate. In addition, design of the site, including grading, paving,
storm drainage, fire water, domestic water, sewage, electrical, and
communications were carried out. The site was built on a brownfield
with serious environmental considerations found during construction, which
added additional constraints and complexity to the planning of the
facility.

Bilstein is one of the world's leading producers of high quality cold rolled steel. GSE
provided full engineering services for Bilstein's first mill constructed outside of Germany. The facility is constructed on a 61 acre greenfield site in Bowling Green, KY strategically located to serve the region's growing automotive industry. Phase 1 of the facility includes a cold rolling mill, 8 batch annealing bases, and a high speed slitting line with a 52 feet deep looping pit.

GSE scanned all installed equipment, pipework, and structural steel at AMVAC's existing site in Washougal, Washington. The 3d model created from the scan was utilized to relocate the entire plant to AMVACs plant in Axis, AL. GSE provided all civil site design, foundations, and platforms in support of the relocated plant and a new Tank Farm supporting the process equipment. Full-time onsite assistance was provided.

GSE partnered with White-Spunner Construction, Inc. to provide three new buildings to support Chevron's new $1.4B Pascagoula Base Oil Project (PBOP) expansion. The Learning and Performance Center (LPC) is 19,700 square feet in two connected buildings, the Training building and the Hands-On building. The LPC's Training building hosts computer and and video based training for all refinery personnel and includes classrooms, a video production suite and administrative offices. The Hands-On building hosts all training and testing for Chevron's skilled trade employees. The LPC buildings were pre-engineered steel clear span buildings on an elevated structural concrete slab supported on auger cast piles. The design included providing welding fume removal systems, overhead cranes and compressed air distribution. The Fabrication Shop is 8,750 square feet of shop space for all-weather steel and pipe fabrication work during plant shutdowns. The shop is a pre-engineered steel clear span building on a conventional shallow concrete foundation. The design included bridge cranes, jib cranes and compressed air distribution.

Standard Concrete Products is a leader in the prestress and precast concrete industry supplying massive piles, beams, and bridge girders to the concrete industry. GSE provided engineering design and surveying for the 60 acre pre-stress concrete products fabrication and shipping facility. The facility included several buildings, a concrete batch plant, and a 65 foot wide barge slip for 100 ton travel lifts. Civil design controlled runoff to a critical US Estuary.

GSE provided the structural engineering analysis and design certification for the installation of Drever's Bright Annealing Line support structure at North American Stainless in Ghent, KY. The 123 foot tall structure consists of 10 equipment support and maintenance levels. The work was part of NAS's $150M capital investment aimed at meeting customer specifications requiring increased surface quality and flatness tolerances.

GSE partnered with GA West for the design build of Technip’s new 75,000 square foot facility. GSE scope of work included Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, and Civil engineering design as well as Architectural services for the new pipe storage, assembly, spooling and loading facility. Structural design included building and equipment foundations, slabs, primary and secondary building steel, equipment supports, and additionally ancillary structures including masonry, handrails, and ladders. Electrical design scope included new power distribution system, grounding system, LED lighting and power connections to various equipment. Infrastructure was provided for telecom and other low voltage systems. GSE’s mechanical group provided HVAC, plumbing, hydraulic design and process piping design.
