Forest Products Equipment System: LP required an automated finished lumber banding station with improved safety and control consoles. GSE provided the system design from AutoCAD, PLC equipment assemblies, commissioning and operator training onsite. As a result, LP realized increased operator safety and throughput at the mill. The control system equipment was by Rockwell Automation SLC.
Service: Process Engineering
Natural Gas Recovery Systems
Oil & Gas Control and SIS Systems: Provided Redundant server-based PCS and SIS systems for an international-based facility that housed 60MMSCFD ethane and butane recovery. The Process Control System (PCS) utilized redundant high-end processors with HMI servers with over 10,000 IO points. The Safety Instrumented System achieved a SIL 2 validation once commissioned. The facility included natural gas inlet & outlet control valves, hot oil heaters, two-phase separation, process towers, and storage of gas and liquid products via truck load-out stations.
Liquid Sulfate Processing Systems
Chemical Processing Systems: GSE completed control system specification, CAD design, material selection, PLC and HMI programming for a hot liquid sulfite chemical facility. The facility operation consisted of the fill, mixing, level and flow control of multiple hot sulfite solution concentrations while controlling level, pH, and turbidity online with real-time stamping of process conditions throughout. The Rockwell ControLogix PLC components were monitored with a Wonderware HMI platform for local and enterprise reporting. The control system included the operation, monitoring, and safety control of associated scrubber and water treatment systems.
Lenzing Fiber
GSE provided all front-end design services for the planned expansion to Lenzing Fiber’s existing facility in Axis, AL. The expansion is expected to more than double current production levels to a total capacity of 140,000 tons annually. GSE’s scope includes all foundations, steel framing, industrial systems, medium voltage distribution, process piping and fire protection system design.
NAVFAC
The Lakeside Building, which obtained LEED Silver Certification, is a two-story structure totaling approximately 200,000 square feet on a 37-acre site. The building includes housing and support facilities for service members while ships are outfitted at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula. The design included residence, exercise, food service, administration and utility spaces for this design-build project. The scope of work included a complete sprinkler system, a brick masonry exterior and a new asphaltic roof. Utility space design included domestic and fire water services, sanitary sewer connection, electrical and gas service, mass notification systems, storm drainage and a water quality system. The building design also included precautions for flooding, as Hurricane Katrina flooded the facility’s first floor in 2005.
